BREAKING NEWS, Nightstop Devon wins Guardian Charity of the Year 2011
We are delighted to be able to announce that Nightstop Devon have been awarded the Guardian Newspaper Charity of the Year Award for 2011. One thousand charities entered the awards this year so for Nightstop to win is great recognition for the local voluntary sector as a whole. Judges included actress Jane Asher, Dame Suzi Leather (head of the charity commission), Baroness Howarth of Breckland OBE and Lynne Berry OBE, associate of Civil Exchange. Prizes include £6,000 and tailored packages of support from the Media Trust and the Foundation for Social Improvement. Dame Suzi Leather said “Nightstop Devon is an absolutely brilliant project and we wanted to recognise the fantastic match of public generosity for this really vulnerable group of people”

COMMUNITY HOUSING AID
CHA is a charity that has been offering housing advice and support for 15 years. The Charity’s objectives are to relieve poverty, sickness and distress among persons within the City of Exeter and surrounding local authority areas who are homeless, or threatened with homelessness.
OUR MISSION: to empower individuals in need of housing to find their own solutions by working with them to remove the obstacles that face them.
OUR CORE VALUES: Community Housing Aid believes that everyone has the right to suitable, sustainable, secure and affordable housing.
Community Housing Aid exists to advise and support people who wish to exercise this right.

OUR PROJECTS:
Community Housing Aid runs four key projects that help tackle and resolve the causes of homelessness:
SMARTMOVE – a rent deposit guarantee scheme for people on low incomes to help them move into private rented accommodation. We only take referrals from our nominated referrers. These are: Exeter, East, and Mid-Devon Councils.
NIGHTSTOP- an emergency overnight accommodation service for young people aged 16-25 yrs old.
RESETTLEMENT- an accommodation finding and tenancy support service for people leaving Wonford Hospital and for ex-offenders leaving prison.
